Boxing Starts with Defense

February 1, 2008

Protect yourself! For starters, protect your face! Proper glove position is the first step to proper defense in sparring class. Of course, in the real world, defending yourself without gloves would be similar.

Hold your right hand close to your right cheek. I like to hold my left hand slight higher and slightly forward. Both hands should be turned inward, with palms facing each other. This enables you to punch with strength by rotating your hands inward when you throw your punches.
