Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Class at USBA
October 14, 2009
We had the great honor and privilege of having Royce Gracie lead us in an amazing seminar last night. We covered some basics, takedowns, sweeps, chokes, and armbars…
What a great turnout we had…I would like to thank everyone who participated – I hope you had as much fun as i did !! It was great to see the new “Royce Gracie” action figure, now available at ToysRUs.
Big congrats to Brian Selvan, Langston Montgomery, and Sid Felczer on their promotions to Blue Belt…great job, gentlemen! We look forward to seeing Royce again soon…until then, keep training hard!!!

The take-downs and sweeps were the best. Simple, and yet, very effective.
Always worthwhile. Most of us aren’t in a position to get sports help from world class athletes, right? My long irons are problematic, and I’m fairly sure Tiger isn’t going to appear in Laguna Niguel to help me get used to my 2-iron. I’d like to be able to shoot 3’s, but it’s unlikely that Derek Fisher is going to work out with me at the Marina Hills courts.
I’m very pleased and proud that we USBA knucklehead students get to spend time with Royce, and that it’s clear he cares about our grips, footwork, posture, smoothness, and mental approach. It’s pretty amazing that we get to do this (thanks again to Master Kravitz). This time (my fourth seminar with Royce, I think), it was obvious how the simplest most basic things are important and interesting. I look forward to his next seminar!
Thanks, guys, for posting. I couldn’t have written it better myself, Jim. I only wish I had a video camera with me to capture Matthew rolling with Royce. That was a memory worth keeping!
