The POWerful Word for October at USBA is responsibility. One of the best ways to reinforce POWerful Words, like responsibility, is by modeling strength of character ourselves. Share with your children how you show responsiblity by being reliable, accountable, and dependable. During week four, we will discuss the following:

Research shows that adults inspire children to act responsibly when they provide clear expectations along with age-appropriate freedom so that children can make their own choices and learn from their own mistakes. During week three, we will discuss the following:
What are my choices and their consequences? Owning our actions…

Responsibility – Week 2

The POWerful Word for October at USBA is responsibility. Meeting an obligation, or keeping a promise, is a great way of demonstrating responsibility, and to exhibit Reliability, Accountability, and Dependability (R.A.D.). During week two, we will discuss the following:
How can I keep my promises? How can I be a R.A.D. person?

Special Halloween Class Schedule!

USBA is holding special classes for Halloween! Wear your costume and join us for a Spook-tacular good time! All belts are invited, ages 4-11, time from 4:10-4:50pm, and 4:50-5:30pm
Please note that classes at 3:30, 5:30, 6:10, and 6:50 classes are canceled on Halloween, Friday, October 31st.

Spotlight Week
October 6, 2008
It is “Spotlight Week” (October 6th - October 10th) at USBA at your regular class time. Juniors - please bring your Jiu-Jitsu Gi to class on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. You are required to bring your safety equipment on Wednesday and Thursday for sparring class.
It’s going to be an awesome week. I’m looking forward to seeing you do excellent in class. Blackbelt Excellence is our goal….. Remember Goals We Set, Are Goals We Get!

October Powerful Word – Responsibility
October 6, 2008
This month in class, we will focus on the character concept, “responsibility.” Our discussions and activities will aim to help children understand the importance of doing what is expected of them, doing what they have committed to do, and to inspire them to show responsible behavior at home, at school, and out in the community.
We all want our children to grow up to be responsible adults. We want them to initiate responsible behavior, acquire responsible habits, and become responsible role models. That means that they need to learn to think, act, and RESPOND in a way that shows that they are Reliable, Accountable, and Dependable (RAD!).
Responsibility can mean different things depending on its context. Sometimes, responsibility has to do with the obligations we must fulfill because we are told to do so. These can be jobs, chores, and duties. At other times, showing responsibility embodies the things we do even though we have not been asked to do.
During week one, we will examine this question:
What am I supposed to do? Jobs, chores, and requirements.
